WASHINGTON — A new report says immigration officials deported more than 100,000 parents of U.S. citizen children over a decade.

The parents were deported between 1998 and 2007 for immigration violations or because they had committed a crime. The report by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general says immigration officials carried out about 2.2 million removals in the same period.
New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano asked for the investigation.
