One in ten deported Mexican immigrants say U.S. officials physically abused them before or during their transfer to their native country, according to a new study.
A random sampling of more than 1,000 deportees in shelters and bus stations in six Mexican cities found that 11% reported some form of physical abuse, such as being pushed, dragged, hit or kicked, according to a survey released by the Immigration Policy Center.
"This type of repetitive, consistent level of abuse of one in ten people is really disturbing," said Jeremy Slack, a University of Arizona doctoral candidate who co-authored the report, which was released Tuesday.
Researchers also found 23% said they suffered verbal mistreatment while in U.S. custody, including slurs like "f-----g wetback," "dirty little Mexican woman, let's see if you cross again after this!" and "Mexican pieces of s---."

One of the immigrants surveyed, identified by researchers only as Javier, 35, said he was trying to get to New York to meet friends when he was caught by Border Patrol just over the U.S. border in Nogales, Arizona and brought to a processing center.
"They pushed me around," he told researchers. "And they didn't let us sleep. Every time we started to sleep they forced us to get up and march or clean the room. We didn't sleep the entire night. They (the agents) took away our watches so we didn't know what time it was. I was forced to look at the floor and wasn't allowed to look up."

While most reported abuse was by Border Patrol agents, others complained about Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, local law enforcement or detention center guards.
"This is not a question of a few bad apples," but is systemic, Slack said.
Six percent of the deported immigrants said they suffered lasting injuries, and 3% said they were sexually abused by U.S. officials, reporting inappropriate touching during searches.
Researchers also found that 34% of those surveyed said officials confiscated at least one of their belongings when they were detained and did not return it.
Officials at Homeland Security, which oversees various immigration agencies, did not immediately return a request for comment.

It's hard to believe illegals as they are living a lie anyway. Lying is just par for the course for them.
