Colorado's Tancredo testing the waters in Iowa
Associated Press
January 12, 2007
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo is headed to Iowa this weekend to test the waters on a potential presidential run, his spokesman said Friday. Tancredo, known for his outspoken criticism of illegal immigration, will meet with Iowa GOP leaders and grassroots activists to see how they would respond if he ran, Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinosa said.
Tancredo will also promote his book, ''In Mortal Danger,'' which warns about the need to secure U.S. borders.
If he runs, Tancredo's campaign would make immigration a central issue, Espinosa said.
Iowa is home to the first nominating caucus in January 2008.
Tancredo views the trip as vital in his decision whether to run, Espinosa said. ''A lot hinges on this — this weekend will determine a lot,'' Espinosa said.
Tancredo is partly testing the support among Iowa Republicans for another likely candidate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who has proposed a guest worker program for illegal immigrants that has drawn loud criticism from Tancredo and other anti-immigration activists.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Tancredo for President?
By Eunice Moscoso | Friday, January 12, 2007, 12:09 PM
The list of presidential wannabes could get a little longer soon. Rep. Tom Tancredo, a Colorado Republican who has gained a national following — and the ire of some Latino groups — as a staunch opponent of illegal immigration, hinted Friday that he is ready to pursue the Oval Office.
When asked whether he plans to take action to start an official bid for the GOP nomination he said, “That is a distinct possibility.”
Tancredo wouldn’t be the only candidate with a “tough on border security” platform. Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, a major force behind constructing fences along the U.S.-Mexico border, formed an exploratory committee last year.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I admire both Hunter and Tancredo! It would be a hard choice between the two.

Wow, the possibility of Hunter, Paul, and Tancredo all getting into the race early on is great. This would force a lot of issues to be discussed that other candidates, like McCain, would rather not talk about. All three are against free trade agreements, SPP/NAU, the illegal invasion, and want the border secured and the fence built. They will be McCain's nightmare.
