Day Laborers Rally For Immigrant Rights

PORTLAND - Day laborers rallied Monday for immigrant rights.

People from Portland, Cornelius and other local towns - as well as a few from seattle - rallied with a few dozen workers at Southeast 6th and Burnside in Portland.

The advocacy groups want day laborers to get more consideration and concessions in the immigration reform debate that's resuming in congress.

The group also thanked Portland Mayor Tom Potter for denouncing the recent ICE raid at at Del Monte Fresh plant in Portland, and for supporting a day labor center for workers.

"we need the United States, and the United States needs the workers", said activist Romeo Sosa. "There should be a better way to solve the problem."

Even as the rally went on, several people stopped to hire day laborers and take them away to job sites.
