    FEMA using e-verify?

Out of curiosity, I looked at the applications for Disaster relief and Food Stamps for victims of Ike. I was surprised to see that a VALID social security number is required. If a name and number do not match, the applicant will have to show other proof of legal status.
Of course, all the anchor babies have valid numbers. I am sure there will be some ID theft as an illegal uses a REAL citizens ID for benefits. There is pretty firm warning about fraud and using a false name to apply.
Does anyone know if these warnings are on the I-9's used for employment?
Wonder if it will REALLY be checked and enforced. There is plenty of work now for the 10 million illegals in Texas. I bet their brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles, aunts are all trying to get here before all the roofing and construction jobs are taken........
I have seen many at work clearing tree limbs and debris. I just hope homeowners consider that they can be sued if an illegal falls off the roof and gets hurt. Always ask for references and insurance. Some home insurance companies may recommend proven companies.
One BIG problem is the legal contractors who bid the jobs, sub out the work to illegals with limited experience, to make more profit.

You got that right, and hopefully you were not hit by Ike at full force. It is all about profit for the contractors, and all about getting as much as you can out of the American people for the contractors and illegals.

    FEMA

We were hit hard. Day 10 with no power. We are using a generator but that thing is thirsty. Already up to 280.00 for generator fuel.
We had roof damage and trees and limbs down everywhere. My family helped get it cleaned up and we repaired the roof ourselves. As American citizen-taxpayers, we can not AFFORD to hire anyone to do our work.

I don't know how well the state investigators are able to get around in an area that has just been hit by a hurricane, but have you thought of calling your state's contractor's board? I do it all the time here---when I see a job site that I believe has an unlicensed contractor doing the work. They can levy some big fines pertaining to the violations that someone without a license is likely to be committing.

If the jobs look legitimate--i.e. with trucks displaying a contractors registration number, phone number, building has a permit attached to the front wall, etc.---I leave them alone, even if the workers look illegal, because it is not the State's job to enforce that law. But so many illegals are operating under the table, I try to make a factual complaint, and have had good results so far.

The landscapers in this state are also required to be licensed. Moreover, their trailers cannot exceed 1800 pounds gross without a license plate and I have seen many of these guys have unlicensed trailers loaded up with dirt, wood, concrete plus their tools and equipment.

I don't know what the Builders or Contractors board is called in Texas but you might give it a try. Americans can be doing these jobs. There will be plenty of FEMA money pouring in to the area and if illegals do the work it will just go out of country.

Unfortunately, even the "legit" contractors will be out there price gouging everyone. The illegal aliens will form their own "companies" and leave business cards galore for you. I've seen it happen. I had a "legit" contractor use illegal aliens from Russia. I kicked them off my property.

I finally found a contractor who KNEW I would be watching EVERYTHING and guaranteed English-speaking workers. Took longer, but it was worth it. These workers THANKED me for demanding American workers! I was shocked!

I also made sure I was present every time someone was working on the house and took pictures at the end of the day. I demanded to see receipts for materials purchased and returned them only after making copies. I refused to sign anything without it having a price and deadline. I may have been a flood victim, but there was NO way in hell I was going to be victimized by profiteers.

Neighbors whose homes were rebuilt by illegal aliens have recurring problems and work has to be redone PROPERLY. My place had no such problems.

I watched that cable show called
    Flip this house."
I never laughed so hard in my life. The guy HAD to be illegal. He wanted that house done so cheap. The lady that checks their progress, kept looking at the camera with one eye-brow up.

He left a blue toilet in a finished bathroom. He said it worked so it was ok??
He had different colored walls because the paint was given to him.
He got used faucets that were not the same at all.
I could NOT believe someone bought it. If they see all the shortcut, stupid stuff he did, they will cry... It was hysterical.

I watch "Flip This House" all the time. I dont want to be accused of "racial profiling" but I cant believe the amount of questionable figures that work for them. You want to know why? They all are filmed from so far away that you cant see their faces, the "close-ups are filmed from the neck down, and they always wear hats and a bandanna wrapped around their face only exposing their eyes, and they never speak. The rest of the crew are filmed close up and they talk. I wonder what the 1st group is trying to hide.

It's already happening. I have never seen so many trucks drigin around with magnetic or hand painted signs on them saying tree removal and roof repair. All of them Mexican. Landscapers all of the sudden are experts in fence repairs. They are going into neighborhoods and actually going door to door.
