Nine GOP Presidential Contenders Woo Activists In Iowa

Apr 15, 2007
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential candidates munched pancakes and pizza and listened to rock music in venues throughout Iowa this weekend.

They were in the state yesterday (Saturday) to deliver a six-minute pitch to more than one-thousand of the party's hard-core Iowa activists at the Lincoln Dinner in Des Moines.

Party leaders kept quiet about just how much money the dinner and accompanying events would raise. But, Iowa Republican Party Chairman Ray Hoffman says it will be a record.

Among those attending various receptions and events were: former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Senator John McCain, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, Chicago businessman John Cox, former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore and Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo.
