Residency law ends drug program

The Latino Center of the Midlands shut down its substance abuse counseling program because of Nebraska's recently adopted law requiring proof of legal residence for public benefits.

The publicly subsidized treatment program was one of Omaha's primary resources for Spanish-speaking people under court orders to receive drug and alcohol evaluation and out-patient counseling, although the program also served other clients.
