Homeless get aid in taking jobs vacated after raids

A group of homeless people will fill jobs left vacant at a Weaverville plant after an immigration raid and will use $500 in city money to get to work.

Beginning Friday, the money for city bus passes will get the group of at least 15 people from an Asheville homeless shelter to Arvato, formerly Sonopress.


Seventy-five workers walked out of the compact-disc making facility after word spread that immigration agents arrested 57 people at another plant, Mills Manufacturing in Woodfin, on Aug. 12.

Money for city bus passes will help get people off private charity and the public dole, said officials with the city and the homeless shelter, Western Carolina Rescue Ministries.

HOORAY!!! THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO WOULD HAVE HAD A JOB ALL ALONG IF NOT FOR ILLEGAL WORKERS. INSTEAD THEY HAVE BEEN DESTITUTE AND HOMELESS. FINALLY THEY WILL HAVE A CHANCE.

I don't mind that my tax dollars are being used to give a hand up to homeless people that have now found work and need help in getting there. The employer should be giving them an allowance for transportation as well until they can get back on their feet. Many of these sleazy companies that would hire illegals would provide "van service" for their workers and should do the same for these American citizens.

In my city our government funds both homeless centers and hiring centers for illegal aliens. Don't they get the connection?

These guys are quibbling over $500 bucks?? Had I that kind of money and felt secure in my future chance of eating and paying bills, I would happily send them a check, after the one I send to ALIPAC.

The City Council voted 4-2 Tuesday to give the rescue ministries money for bus passes. Councilmen Carl Mumpower and Bill Russell voted no. Councilwoman Robin Cape was absent.

Wonder why they voted "NO" Politicians do not hesitate when it comes time to aid and enbet ILLEGALS with taxpayer money!!!!!!!!!!!

SEE. There are MANY AMERICANS waiting in lines to get the jobs of illegal aliens that were nabbed in raids. THANK YOU ICE! HIRE AMERICANS!
