BOSTON - Federal authorities say a Polish citizen living in Rhode Island has been charged with willfully refusing to apply for travel documents that would enable U.S. officials to deport him.

Prosecutors say Wlomidierz Miszczuk, also known as Walter Miszczuk, was charged Wednesday with five counts of refusing to obtain travel documents after an immigration judge ordered his deportation in February 2008.

The deportation order was based on the 72-year-old’s conviction for an aggravated felony and for domestic violence.

Authorities allege the resident of Greenville, R.I., has refused to cooperate with U.S. immigration and Polish embassy officials in completing travel documents.

He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted on each of the charges.

It was not immediately clear if the man has legal representation
