EL PASO, Texas -- U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes weighed in on the case involving two El Paso Border Patrol Agents and the smuggler they shot.
Just two weeks ago that smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete, was in federal court facing drug charges.
Reyes said he doesn't think this will change the fate of the former border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, but he said it does ease the worries of residents.
Reyes says, "It resolves the issue that many people were upset, because this was a criminal that was still continuing to walk freely. I think that has changed dramatically."
Aldrete faces up to 40 years in prison for each of four drugs counts including conspiracy to possess and import more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.

No, Reyes, people aren't upset because one more drug smuggler was running around. They're ANGRY because our border patrolmen are being unjustly persecuted.

For those interested, here's a little intel on Representative Silvestre Reyes (D - TX):
Excerpt:
[quote]After serving his country in Vietnam, Reyes decided to devote his life to public service. In 1969, he began his career with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in the U.S. Border Patrol. After serving as an agent, immigration inspector and instructor at the Border Patrol Academy, he was named assistant regional commissioner in Dallas, Texas, for five years, where he had direct responsibility for administering a budget program exceeding $100 million for a 13-state area.
Reyes was then promoted to sector chief of the U.S. Border Patrol from 1984 to 1995, first in McAllen, Texas, and subsequently in El Paso. Reyes quickly became known as one of our government’s strongest and most effective innovators in border management. In McAllen and El Paso, Reyes initiated forward-thinking programs such as “Operation Hold the Line,â€"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

Maybe through his immigration work, he made enough contacts in Mexico, and with other unsavory individuals, he can now make a comfortable living working to keep the border open.

REYES is a jerk. he went on record when this first happened as favoring the trial and defended the prosecution of the agents. When the families turned to him for help in the matter, he never called them back and never offered any kind of aid.
A few months ago he CLAIMED that he changed his mind and supported the agents.
He has also not done anything to help the family of Noe Aleman whos a former BP agent in prison for a year because of adopting his nieces. and then reporting a typo on the visa for the three kids.

I have a better word for him than jerk, but Alipac is such a wonderful site and I enjoy working with all the great people here and I would get banned so fast...so I'll leave it alone, besides everyone might be shocked coming from a new great grandmother.
He probably helped get illlegals across the border when he was an agent and demaned his agents not enforce the laws, pretty bad when someone like him can make it to congress! Please support ALIPAC's fight to save American Jobs & Lives from illegal immigration by joining our free Activists E-Mail Alerts (CLICK HERE)
