Romney: More state, local police should get immigration training

PHOENIX Mitt Romney says more state and local police agencies should consider making deals with the federal government to have their officers trained in enforcing federal immigration law.

The Republican presidential candidate was in Arizona today (Tuesday) to meet with law enforcement authorities.

Near the end of his tenure as governor of Massachusetts, Romney signed a deal to have 30 state troopers trained to make immigration arrests.

But Governor Patrick rescinded the policy after taking office.

Romney made an appearance in Arizona with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a supporter who recently made a deal to have 160 of his deputies and jail officers trained in immigration law.
