TX Governor Pushes Legislation That Could Put Sanctuary City SHERIFFS Behind Bars

Posted By Christian Datoc On 12:55 PM 03/30/2017

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said during a Wednesday interview with Newsmax host Steve Malzberg that he plans on signing into law a piece of legislation that could actually jail sheriffs serving in sanctuary cities and counties.

“It’s a two step-process. As governor, I could unilaterally use my office to take funds away from Travis County that have been previously granted to them,” Abbott first explained. “We defund them to the tune of more than $1.5 million.”

    WATCH:

“In addition to that, we have been pushing a piece of legislation in Texas that will pass, that I will be signing into law, that imposes even sterner penalties on counties,” he added.”

“It will include things such as defunding them. It will impose fines, and it could impose jail time for the sheriffs to enforce the laws.”

Abbott further noted that, “oddly enough, the sheriffs could end up behind the very bars they are releasing these criminals from.”

It sounds good - and I want more than anyone for it to be put into action.

I'm not betting my milk and egg money on it, though.

If our government, even under this governor, had wanted to seriously do something about illegal immigration, he would have done so a long time ago.

Something as simple as demand the enforcement of simple traffic laws - the same all of us have to obey. He could instruct the DPS, a state organization, to enforce the laws. Hasn't done it - yet.

As I said, I won't bet my egg money on it.

He talks a good line - but the results have been less than non-existent.

Actually Governor Abbott is doing an excellent job. He's getting more done than any Governor in the country. Honestly, you're lucky to have him and should be proud of having one of the good guys.

Gov. Abbott has already pulled $1.5 million from Travis County, which leaves me with no doubt that he'll do the same thing with any other County that refused to work with ICE.

    - Gov. Abbott of Texas filed the lawsuit on behalf of 26 states to stop Obama's DAPA program and DACA extension. Lawsuit was successful.

    - Gov. Abbott signed HB 11, which cracks down on human smuggling and increases penalties for perpetrators. The bill bolsters the ranks of state police, increased technology and established intelligence operations units on the Texas-Mexico border.

    - As Attorney General, Greg Abbott urged President Obama time and time again to make border security a priority.

    - Gov. Abbott informed President Obama that Texas would not take part in the U.S. resettlement plan for Syrian refugees.

    - Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a ban on sanctuary cities in the state. He stated that elected officials do not get to choose which state and federal laws to enforce:
“As elected officials, it is our responsibility to protect all Texans,” Abbott said during his State of the State speech today in Austin. “It’s our burden to deal with the consequences of the federal government not doing its job to secure our border,” Abbott continued.

“Now let’s be clear about this: We all support legal immigration into the United States; legal immigration is what’s built the United States of America,” Abbott said. “What must be stopped is illegal immigration — and worse, the criminals who conspire with cartels to enter the U.S. illegally,” Abbott continued.

“Texas can’t change federal immigration laws. What Texas can do is to enforce existing law,” said Abbott.
This is not a all inclusive list of his accomplishments against illegal immigration, but it is a fair snapshot of his seriousness in dealing with the issue. I suspect most folks here on ALIPAC would be proud to have him as their Governor.

Yes, he talks a good talk and there are laws - but are they being enforced.

You see, it's the results that count - and we are not having results in Texas.

Again, we have plenty of laws on the books in Texas that will help and they won't enforce them.

Not to harp on it, but having a fake ID is a big deal. It certainly should be.

I renewed my DL some months early once when I was going to be out of state. They made a big, I mean really big deal of cutting up my DL, issuing a receipt and telling me very forcefully, if I was caught with 2 driver licenses, it would be a $10K fine.

Now I'm thinking to be caught with a fake DL could/should carry a tougher penalty. Actually, some illegals have more than one DL. I know they have more than one SS card. I once saw one with 6 SS cards.

If the illegals were not allowed to drive, if they had those cars confiscated, they would have trouble working, would certainly cut into their enjoyment. One of the first things they do, is purchase a vehicle. They certainly couldn't kill and maim our countrymen without their vehicles.

I like results - and he's had time to get results - and he hasn't.

Change the loophole that says only the contract signing with the state must verify their workers as legal. That's a loophole big enough to drive a huge piece of machinery through.

Why are illegals allowed to have a business license??

I'm sure there are more I don't know about.

Also, despite the fact 'Texas is not taking part in refugee settlement' - they brought refugees into Texas.

Again, actions speak louder than words.

We have plenty of laws on the books in the US to deal with this and they aren't being used - Texas is no different.

Honestly, I think you're downplaying his accomplishments and actual intentions. After all, he's only the Governor, not Superman. Just my opinion.

I do like Governor Abbott though, he's not afraid to push the envelope on this issue. It's just such a big issue at this point. Overwhelmingly big issue with so much resistance. Very frustrating for all of us. It's going to take a long time to solve but because we've worked at this for so long, so many many years, that we want it fixed right now.
