ANDERSON — A state report says an investigation at three Anderson School District 5 construction sites found that subcontractors employed undocumented workers.
The report by the South Carolina Labor, Licensing and Regulation Office of Immigrant Worker Compliance says investigators inspected the Calhoun Academy of the Arts, Glenview Middle School and Robert Anderson Middle School beginning July 14. They found that five subcontractors for the school construction sites had hired 16 workers not authorized to work in the U.S.
Investigators looked at whether the employees met federal employment verification guidelines.
Jim Knight, administrator for the labor department’s office of immigrant worker compliance, said these businesses were cited for employing ineligible workers: Besco/Stryker Electrical of Palm City, Fla.; Butner Construction of Tobaccoville, N.C., Elrod’s Concrete Construction of Central, S.C.; Foothills Custom Masonry of Liberty, S.C.; and Upstate Stucco and Stone LLC of Greenville, S.C.
