Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal entrant in Douglas Friday who in 1994 had been convicted for aggravated assault with a handgun in Cochise County.

Jesus Corona-Gutierrez, of Mexico, had been sentenced to eight years in prison before he was removed to Mexico on February 9, 1999. Corona-Gutierrez was arrested in March 1994 for attempted murder in Cochise County.

Corona-Gutierrez was arrested for reentry into the United States.

Border Patrol authorities said that since Corona-Gutierrez is a convicted felon, he will be held in service custody pending prosecution for reentry of an aggravated felon. He will then be formally deported to Mexico.

In a separate incident agents in Naco arrested an illegal entrant that was convicted for sex abuse of a child in Idaho.

Alejandro Fernandez-Montelongo, 24, of Mexico, was sentenced to eight years in prison. He served 180 days before being returned to Mexico. Fernandez-Montelongo is also in service custody pending prosecution for re-entry of an aggravated felon. Advertisement
