    DOUGLAS — Nearly 50 illegal immigrants were taken into custody late Thursday and early Friday about two miles north of the Douglas Port of Entry, according to the Border Patrol.


    The apprehensions were part of a busy weekend for agents of the Tucson Sector of the Border Patrol, agency spokesman Alex Gomez said Monday.


    The 46 Mexican nationals were spotted about 11 p.m. Thursday by the operator of a mobile scope who directed Douglas Station agents to the group. The 41 males and five women were taken into custody shortly after midnight, Gomez said.


    Of the 41 males, 36 were adults and five were accompanied juveniles, Gomez said, adding that of the five females, one was an accompanied juvenile.


    None required any medical assistance after being taken into custody east of the Douglas Port of Entry, Gomez said.


    In a separate incident early Friday, a male illegal immigrant from Mexico was found in a remote desert area west of Douglas. A fingerprint check revealed that the man, in his late 30s, had been arrested in California on child cruelty, spousal battery and other charges, Gomez said. The man was held for further processing.


    Also Saturday west of Douglas, a male illegal immigrant from Mexico was found to have a murder warrant against him out of California after his fingerprints were checked, Gomez said. The man, in his mid-30s, had a more than $1 million bond, according to the records, and he was held for further processing, Gomez said.


    Sunday morning, another male illegal immigrant was arrested west of the Douglas Port of Entry, Gomez said.
