5 Reasons Your Heart Doesn’t Need To Bleed Over Illegal Immigration .
Monday, 02 August 2010 00:42 Sally Meininger - NewsRealBlog.com Now that U.S District Judge Susan Bolton has hamstrung the Arizona Illegal Immigration law. Governor Brewer has vowed to fight. Regardless of the final outcome, the real issue lies with the illegal immigrants themselves-their choices, and the effect of those choices on their families-and ours. The way this is playing out in the media is a typical leftist tactic- use the victims to manipulate public opinion into alignment with their agenda. All in the name of Reform. Cue the weeping Hispanics with American-born children.

Now before I'm labeled as heartless, I love the idea of people immigrating legally to America because they believe it's the best country on the planet, because they want to make it better. And as a parent, I can imagine the heart-rending trauma facing some of these families. But that begs the question. Was the trauma really necessary in the first place? Somewhere between one and three million people break the law and cross the border every year. Surely they knew it was a gamble.

TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES

So, let's set explosive emotionalism aside and look at this issue logically, starting with consequences. You know-the effect that comes from choices? Illegals who sneak across the border and then have children know that they may face deportation and separation.

This tears at the already thinning fabric of the family. Can't it be argued that having children on this side of the border puts their children at risk and is frankly selfish? Because these families are illegal, they cannot live out in the open, which forces the majority of them into poverty, a lack of future opportunities- and worse. Waving a wand to make everyone legal isn't the answer. Just ask who go through the process to become legal citizens.

CRIME DOESN'T PAY

Not all illegal immigrants are people just looking for a better life. I believe many are-I've known some hardworking humble families, but just because the people are nice doesn't make them legal. Living on the run from La Migra creates conditions not conducive to raising children. In fact, many children of illegal immigrants turn to gangs, which leads to crime...and death. Identity theft, illegal drugs, sex-slave trafficking, and terrorism. Which proves not only Hispanics are coming through the border. The House Committee on Homeland Security released a 2006 report showing a growing number of illegal immigrants from nations known to train and harbor Islamic terrorists have been using the Southwest border as their entrance to the United States. This puts all families at risk.

THE AMERICAN DREAM?

Legal immigration is can be time-consuming and costly, but by it one can show his respect for the United States and its laws. Conversely, many feel that their first step on American soil can be in defiance of those laws, which mocks those that immigrate legally. Everyone loves to quote the words on the Statue of Liberty about the huddled masses. But Lady Liberty isn't holding the torch in order to smuggle in those who disrespect the country they're supposedly seeking a better life in. The masses of old went through Ellis Island-legally. They acclimated to America. They wanted to be Americans. Many illegal immigrants band together and keep their identity. How many defiant illegal immigration rallies are full of American flag wavers? Oh, wait, those flags are Mexican. Apparently they're only nationalistic toward the country they left-and not the one who feeds and educates their families.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH

Not many ERs are still open in border states. Illegals must by definition keep a low profile, so they don't go to the local family physician. They go to the ER for health issues great and small because an ER is legally bound to treat anyone, regardless of residency or ability to pay. But when illegals don't pay, hospitals and clinics close down. Is that fair to the hospital staff who have to support families of their own? Is it fair to legal families to have their health care options depleted? And then there's food stamps, housing and other entitlements-the vast bulk of which is paid for by American citizens, not illegals, who send much of their money back across the border and subsist on the state instead. I think it's fair to conclude that illegal immigration is harmful to their families and to American families. So is there something else at work here?

POLITICS AS USUAL

Ever ask yourself why the Left is so supportive of illegal immigration? How can that be when it's been proven that illegals face difficult, impoverished, crime-ridden lives. It's like their solution of giving a shopping cart to a homeless person. So one must ask, what's in it for the Left? Votes of course. If Obama gets Amnesty-and he's gotten everything else he's wanted thus far-it will amount to the greatest voter drive in history. If you were illegal, wouldn't you show loyalty the party that promised consequence-free amnesty, free healthcare, food stamps, free housing...all outside of the shadows? Having a majority of the American population depending on the government for their daily bread will hardly lift people out of poverty. If anything it will beget even more.

So perhaps the greatest threat to the family is a massive dependent voting bloc, which will spurn the very foundations of the Constitution in the name of political expediency. Expediency that will take us down the road to socialism where the federal government doles out to the proletariat what it can squeeze from the bourgeoisie.

Think that's alarmist? Look what Obama has done in twenty months. There's a name for it. History shows it's been done over and over, starting with the dispensing of the rule of law in favor of the rule of the state.

It's our children who always pay the ultimate price.
