WASHINGTON, D.C. - The mother of Sarah Root was at the White House Wednesday at the invitation of President Trump. Sarah was killed in January of 2016 after her SUV was hit in Omaha. The other vehicle was driven by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras. He was booked for DUI and street racing but posted bail and disappeared. Michelle Root says the invitation came from President Trump.

Root says, “A few of us were invited for a round table on illegal immigration. We all sat down and told our stories. They brought the media in. It was amazing to see them all file in and listen. We each told our stories. I believe there were four Angel Mom’s, two Angel Dad’s and the daughter of a border patrol agent.”

The U.S. House passed two immigration bills Thursday, Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act. Root says she was shocked that there were not more laws on the books regarding crimes committed by illegal immigrants. She says, “I’m mind-blown we need to make laws like this and we need you guys to pass them. It is not just for my Sarah, it is for everyone.”

Root says it has been 17 months since Sarah died and there is still little information regarding Mejia. She says apparently some of Mejia’s family members here were deported because they refused to provide information on his location.
