GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Reidsville woman who issued more than 150 fraudulent driver's licenses while she worked as an examiner for the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles in Greensboro has been sentenced to two years in federal prison.

Samantha Ann McCain pleaded guilty over the summer to illegally issuing the licenses. At least some of the licenses went to illegal immigrants.

McCain made no comment during Friday's sentencing. She was caught after someone suggested McCain was issuing the licenses too quickly, in just seconds in some cases, and without doing exams and road tests.

McCain said she skipped the steps because she was uncomfortable because she was pregnant, according to a document filed by McCain's attorney. She also did not want to be near some people because of their appearance or hygiene.

But Lisa Boggs of the U.S. Attorney's Office said "it defies logic" that McCain would risk being caught so many times without being compensated.

McCain's attorney, Robert McClellan, said nothing indicates that McCain received an influx of money.
