MIAMI (WSVN) -- Hundreds of Haitian activists rallied for immigration reform outside the Department of Homeland Security in Miami Thursday.

Many of the protesters said they are upset because Haitian immigrants are usually sent back to their country unlike Cuban immigrants who are allowed to stay in the US as part of the wet-foot/dry-foot policy. But, more specifically, they asked for a US program similar to the Cuban Family Reunification Program.

In a statement, Marleine Bastien, Executive Director, Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami, said: "Creating the Haitian Family Reunification Program could be the United States' most direct and significant form of support to Haiti's rebuilding. The Cuban Family Reunification Program has been renewed in 2009 and 2010 but a similar program for Haiti remains outstanding. We are coming together to ask in one voice: 'Equal Treatment for Haitians Now!'"
