    Immigration Reform

    Immigration Reform

    By Amy Wood
    Thursday, May 17, 2007

Senator Lindsey Graham, tells me it’s an unprecedented effort to head off opposition at the pass, by including all the key players from both political parties and the Director of Homeland Security as well as Immigration officials in their immigration negotiations. They’ve been under way behind closed doors for months.

They’ve come up with a bi-partisan solution to the immigration problem. It would allow illegals to apply for a probationary visa. But to get it, they’d have to pay fines, that start at a minimum of 5 thousand dollars, go through fingerprint based background checks (anyone with a criminal record gets booted out), and prove they have a job in the U.S.. It would take 18 months of that probationary status, to get a temporary visa to remain in the U.S..

If an illegal immigrant wanted to become U.S. citizen, they have to go back home and apply like everyone else, and they can’t come in before others who’ve been lined up back home, waiting to do it legally. It would take 13 years to become a U.S. citizen.

South Carolina’s other Republican Senator, Jim Demint, who was not part of the negotiations, says it’s amnesty, which he opposes. But Graham says it’s not. Not with massive fines and penalties, background checks and the requirement that you have to be working in the U.S.

So what do you think? Share your comments here in the Blogspot. I’ll see you on Your CW News at Ten.

Be sure to tell them what you think. Their story today said that Lindsey Grhama's office repsonding toJjim Demint saying that Jim was wrong and that this is not an amnesty.

Never look at another flag. Remember, that behind Government, there is your country, and that you belong to her as you do belong to your own mother. Stand by her as you would stand by your own mother

I responded. It seemed that everyone who responded agreed with Senator DeMint, and not Lindsey Graham. Kind of interesting...
