11 Cuban Migrants Come Ashore Near Key Biscayne

(CBS4) Key Biscayne A busy morning for Border Patrol agents as they round up ten Cuban migrants who came ashore near Key Biscayne.

Our news partners at the Miami Herald report five migrants walked up to the Key Biscayne tollbooth around 6:30a Monday morning. The group included adults and children. Tollbooth workers gave them coffee and kept them warm until Border Patrol agents arrived. One of the group reportedly walked away but the others stayed put.

About half an hour later, six more migrants showed up wet and shivering.

Four of the six in this group identified themselves as 34-year old Lidia Lugo, her 9-year old son Jose Carlos, her 15-year old daughter Amanda, and 13-year-old Mario Nunez who was not related to the Lugos.

Lidia Lugo, who reportedly has a relative in Hialeah, said they left Sunday from Cuba's Pinar del Rio. She didn’t say, however, how they made the trip.
