Texas Baptists To Launch Immigration Services
http://www.kxan.com/Global/story.asp?S= ... v=0s3d6fQJ
Washington -- Some conservatives may reject comprehensive immigration reform as amnesty, but Baptists say the Bible mandates they back legalization.
The Baptist General Convention of Texas and Southern Baptists Convention has adopted resolutions embracing immigrants, legal and illegal.
The Hispanic Baptist Convention Monday plans to unveil at its convention in Austin a national program to aid immigrants with obtaining citizenship, legal residency and other immigration problems.
The Hispanic convention is an arm of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
The decision to start the program was made after the Baptist General Convention of Texas approved a resolution acknowledging documented and undocumented immigrants are members of Baptist congregations.
The program won't be exclusive to Baptist congregations."Ask not what your country can do for you --ask what you can do for your country" John F. Kennedy

Most things that have hispanic before it thinks that laws are not for them. If the churchs break the law send them to jail and ensure that the church pays taxes from now on.

I just got off the phone, and one thing I ask is that if you call please be polite.
The group has 4 points they will give you and read to you.
The representative I spoke with began to preach scripture at me and I tossed some back at him. We spent the last half hour debating this and here is what I found out about the program:
- This program is to educate baptist ministers to help people with immigration issues and possibly to help illegals file for legal status << not something I am happy with
- No Baptist churches are being asked to house or hide illegal aliens
- This program will help illegal aliens wishing to return home to return without calling ICE
- This program will help families mend after being torn by deportation and assist in the reuniting in their home countries.
here is what I found out about the rep:
- He supports enforcement only and even said "the problem is the gov't is not enforcing the laws on the books"
- Understands that many South. Baptist and Baptist do not support illegal immigration and will be quite unhappy about this.
- The representative was confident that the current Senate bill WOULD NOT pass.
- Agreed that spanish speaking immigrants were being treated with preference over those from africa or asia.
