2 arrested as immigration activists storm congressional offices

An 8-year-old boy whose mother was deported to Mexico led a chanting crowd of about 150 pro-immigration activists through congressional offices Wednesday. Capitol police arrested two demonstrators for disorderly conduct.

Saul Arellano and other children carried a banner that read, "Born in the USA. Don't take our moms and dads away."

The boy's mother, Elvira Arellano, was deported last month after taking refuge in a Chicago church for a year.

Police tussled with demonstrators after they taped a letter to the door of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was in Oregon for a forum on global warming.

The crowd went to Pelosi's office after a news conference at House offices that was punctuated by chants of "Si, se puede," or "Yes, we can."

Saul Arellano, wearing baggy pants and looking distracted, joined other children at the front of the procession. He was followed by someone holding an icon of the Virgin of Guadalupe and two others holding large flags, one Mexican and one Puerto Rican. One child hesitated to board an escalator, creating a bottleneck.

The crowd chanted in support of Elvira Arellano, who was in the U.S. illegally for several years before taking sanctuary at Chicago's Adalberto United Methodist Church, where she lived with her son for a year in defiance of a deportation order.

She left the church last month to speak to other immigrants around the country and was arrested in Los Angeles by immigration authorities. They deported her to Tijuana, Mexico, where she has been promoting an overhaul to U.S. immigration laws.

Protesters left the building after police threatened more arrests.

Good, it's about time congress had a small taste of what we have been going through.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank the Bush and Clinton families for this chaos they helped to create in our country.

The terms of the forthcoming Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007, (HR 1940) need to be implemented as soon as possible, in order to end the Anchor Baby program once and for all. Read more in this article:

I glad children are not running this country and I don't care if they are Americans or not.

The people that put this event together should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting children. Their parents are just as bad.

Shame, shame, shame on you. Take your children home and take care of them, quit using them as political pawns.

These people make me sick. They are as bad as Cindy Sheehan.

I agree Dixie! Why weren't these kids in school anyway? I think the exploitation of Saul really needs to stop.

Did anyone see Lou Dobb's show tonight where they talked about this?

First of all, quit expoiting the children. There is no excuse for bringing them to protests. IMO, this is abusive and will cause alot of psychiatric problems down the road. We definitely need to have the 14th amendment adjusted so it will put an end to "anchor babies".

keep showing up at the Capitol as often as possible, and continue to carry foreign flags and statues with you! Make sure you play your drums and keep chanting away in spanish too. Hopefully, all our reps will get a belly-full of nausea, and say NO MORE!

This is a despicable exploitation of children. I simply don't understand why CPS has not intervened on behalf of these innocent children. Their parents should be charged with child abuse. They obviously have no concern for the emotional well-being, or the long-term psychological damage this may engender.

When will people realize children are not miniature adults? This is appalling.
