A man authorities believe is the Chandler Rapist is being housed in an isolated unit on the same floor as other sex offenders in Maricopa County Jail, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Wednesday.

Santana Batiz Aceves, 39, who Chandler police arrested Jan. 11 and who is accused of six attacks on young teen girls over 18 months, is in the special management unit at the jail, like most suspects in crimes of similar nature, Arpaio said.

"He only gets out for one hour a day . . . to take a shower," Arpaio said. "If he gives us any garbage we'll put him on bread and water. He wears pink underwear."

In 12 days, Batiz Aceves has received two visits, one from the public defender's office and one from the Mexican Consulate, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Batiz Aceves declined to speak with the media. He was indicted last week on 47 felony counts, including kidnapping, child molestation, aggravated assault and sexual abuse of a minor.

If convicted, Batiz Aceves faces a minimum 250 years in prison, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said.
