U.S. BORDER PATROL Weekly Blotter: (12/15/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 23,988 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested five criminal aliens and three gang members. There were nine rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,109 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Tahoe near El Centro, California. Agents discovered the vehicle abandoned in a local neighborhood with the marijuana inside.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,882 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 8,742 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer. A subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 87 pounds of marijuana, a 2002 BMW and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Amado, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered the marijuana in the trunk. The subject was also found to be in possession of a cell phone containing multiple photographs and video of child pornography.

Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from India in Lynden, Washington. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for burglary in the state of California, and a conviction for trafficking in a controlled substance in the country of Canada.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 368 pounds of marijuana, a GMC Yukon, a Chevrolet pickup truck, and arrested three USCs and one national of Mexico near Calexico, California. Agents detected an ultralight aircraft entering the United States and responded to a suspected narcotics drop zone. The marijuana, vehicles and subjects arrested were encountered at the drop zone. The ultralight aircraft was later observed landing in Mexico.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Sur 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for possession of a stolen vehicle. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico at the Highway 86 traffic checkpoint near Westmoreland, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,116 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the vehicle, and a subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had previously been removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by several unidentified subjects throwing rocks near Nogales, Arizona. The agent was responding to a suspected illegal entry when he came under attack by rock throwing assailants. The agent deployed his pepperball launching system and the attackers broke off their assault, retreating further into Mexico


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,874 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Tubac, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history related to gang involvement. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,925 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two USCs and seized weapons and ammunition pursuant to a vehicle stop in Canton, New York. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search revealed four concealed semi-automatic pistols, two tactical vests, a stun gun, a switchblade knife, two black ski masks, and an assortment of ammunition. Records checks revealed both subjects had criminal histories.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fort Hancock, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Latin Kings gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an Isuzu SUV, and $140,005.00 in U.S. currency, and arrested a USC near Rachel, Texas. Agents conducted a vehicle stop and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the passenger compartment. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the bundles of currency hidden in the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 279 pounds of marijuana, an Isuzu SUV, and arrested a USC near Sonoita, Arizona. The subject became combative during the arrest and assaulted two agents. The agents subdued the subject and took him into custody. The marijuana was found in the vehicle. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents discovered a tunnel, seized 2,194 pounds of marijuana, a Ford van, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Nogales, Arizona. ICE agents conducting surveillance observed bundles of suspected narcotics being passed from a hole in the pavement and into the van near the international border fence. ICE and Border Patrol agents responded, arrested the subject and seized the vehicle and marijuana.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,350 pounds of marijuana and a Dodge pickup truck near La Casita, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle leaving the banks of the Rio Grande River at a high rate of speed. As agents approached, the driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded. The marijuana was found in the pickup truck.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 808 pounds of marijuana near Vamori, Arizona. An agent reported hearing shots fired and responding agents discovered the marijuana abandoned in the vicinity.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 254 pounds of marijuana, a .38 caliber handgun, and a minivan near Tucson, Arizona. Agents received information concerning a suspected narcotics load vehicle and located the vehicle in Tucson. The occupants of the van drove the vehicle into a curb and absconded on foot. Agents searched the van and discovered the weapon and the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – A Border Patrol agent was shot and killed after an encounter with several suspects near Rio Rico, Arizona. Four suspects were taken into custody following the shooting.
