PHOENIX (AP) - Lawyers for Gov. Jan Brewer are asking a federal judge to dismiss one of the five pending lawsuits challenging the state's controversial law targeting illegal immigration.

A motion filed Monday asks U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton to dismiss a challenge filed by the League of United Latin American Citizens and other plaintiffs. The motion contends the lawsuit is based on "unsupported speculation" and a misreading of the law's legal underpinnings. It also argues that the state has immunity under the 11th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Bolton has already dismissed two of the seven lawsuits originally filed.

She has also barred implementation of key parts of the law pending a trial. That ruling is now being appealed.
