MISSION - Police found the body of a 35-year-old man in a Mission canal Sunday afternoon. The discovery marks the second body found in the area in six weeks.

Back in August, a resident called police after his dog brought a human hand a portion of a right arm back to his home. The body was located shortly thereafter by police.

Many residents told CHANNEL 5 NEWS they believe the victims are illegal immigrants. Rita Gonzalez said a man knocked on her door to tell her about the man in the canal. She called police.

"Well, they were illegal, because he came asking for help and he just told me call somebody. He was all muddy and everything and he just ran back. I don't know if he ran back to Mexico or somebody was waiting for him," Gonzalez said.

Neighbors say the people are using their neighborhood to hide from Border Patrol agents. Yolanda Solis has lived in the area for years. She hopes this latest incident prompts law enforcement to patrol their streets more often.

"Yeah, (I) don't know when they're good or when there out to do something. Some might just come look for jobs, but you still have to be out on the lookout," she said.

The Mission Police Department is looking into the death. They say the man did have injuries and foul play has not been ruled out.
