Tancredo is committed to securing our borders

Most Americans agree that homeland security is at the top of the list of national priorities. The recent Osama bin Laden message to Americans probably has reinforced the consensus.

That same unanimity is lacking, however, when the conversation turns to national sovereignty – the idea that we Americans alone have the right to determine the shape and future of our republic, what language we shall speak and who will get to share in the great privilege of American citizenship.

Among our national leaders, Colorado's Tom Tancredo is one of the few who consistently and tirelessly has opposed illegal immigration and the efforts to subjugate our beloved homeland to supranational entities, such as the North American Union and the United Nations.

The surrender of American sovereignty in recent years and the seemingly endless stream of illegal trespassers across our borders can only have made our nation less secure. Just how vulnerable these unchecked and unmonitored entries have made us is something too frightening to contemplate.

However, hoping that nothing cataclysmic will occur is not a good game plan. Nor should American taxpayers be expected to serve as the world's safety net and sanctuary.

They can't do it, and they're not morally obligated to have their earnings garnished so that corrupt regimes can continue to send restless, surplus masses to our cities and towns.

To add insult to injury, the recent newcomers by and large do not assimilate, so that the look, feel and sound of our nation are changing, and it is we who are expected to accommodate the changes, regardless of expense or disruption to the national fabric.

I believe it is neither racist nor xenophobic to assert that America should and must have the deciding say about whom she will invite to reside and stay within her national borders.

If you are concerned about national sovereignty, if you believe our leaders are bound to uphold the Constitution, if you would like to restore meaning to the concept of citizenship and want your children to inherit a country as great as the one we were raised to love, please join me in supporting Tom Tancredo in his bid to become the Republican nominee for president.
