COLLEGE PARK — A former, longtime TV newsman announced Monday that he will seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss next year.

Cardwell sounds interesting, though I heard the conservative Democrat speak last year from the Blue Dogs, and they haven't shown up yet. Are the Republicans going to send a candidate after Chambliss, or will they stand by their man?
