Cockfighting Ring Busted in Fairhope

The Fairhope Police Department has arrested more than a dozen people, they say, were running a cockfighting ring in Baldwin County.

FAIRHOPE, AL - On Sunday at 12:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of a cockfight in progress in a wooded area off Red Barn Road. On arrival, the officers discovered a fight ring constructed of wood and wire mesh which was being used to contain the birds as they fought. The officers also found dead fighting fowl, live caged fowl, and paraphernalia associated with cockfighting.

Eighteen suspects were arrested on various charges related to the cockfighting operation. Those arrested were:

Lisa Stuart, age 49, of Fairhope, charged with promoting gambling (13A-12-22, Code of Alabama), cockfighting (13A-12-4), and cruelty to animals (13A-11-14).

Salvador Fabian-Guerrero, age 20, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling (13A-12-23), cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Jose Davida-Rodriguez, age 42, of Fairhope, charged with promoting gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Rogelio Lemus-Fabian, age 35, of Summerdale, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Salvador Fabian, age 25, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Juan Fabian, age 67, unknown address, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Ancelmo Lemus-Huerta, age 55, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Pedro Lemus, age 38, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Santiago Enriquez-Guardian, age 38, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Melchon Lemus, age 26, of Foley, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
David Enriques Acuapa, age 33, of Silverhill, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Reyes Fabian, age 39, of Fairhope, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Francisco Mendoza-Estrada, age 24, of Summerdale, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Ramon Jose Chavez, age 27, of Summerdale, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Roman Tobon, age 40, of Elberta, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Adrian Enriquez, age 40, of Silverhill, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Sabastian Leyva Rangel, age 23, of Summerdale, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
Roberto Caballero, age 42, of Summerdale, charged with conspiracy to promote gambling, cockfighting, and cruelty to animals.
According to the investigation, the promoters were charging admission and selling alcoholic beverages to attendees.

In all, twenty live birds were seized and are being held by Fairhope Animal Control for evaluation. Several birds were located at the fight that had already been killed; some had been placed in holes for burial.

Several juveniles were also present. Due to their ages, 10 to 14, they were not charged and were released to other family members.

The Fairhope Police Department is working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to determine the correct identity of 12 of the arrestees. The undocumented aliens are being held at the Fairhope Municipal Jail at the request of ICE in accordance with federal regulations.
