Sobriety checkpoint finds immigration violations
http://www.jacksonholenews.com/article.php?art_id=969
Yellowstone National Park officials discovered 13 alleged immigration violations and other infractions on Thursday at a checkpoint that targeted drunk drivers.
Park rangers did not arrest anyone for driving under the influence. As part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Association’s National Impaired Driving Enforcement Crackdown, rangers and special agents conducted checks on all southbound passenger vehicles from 3 to 7 p.m. on Highway 191.
Rangers charged the 13 “undocumented aliens” with violating Title 8 of federal immigration laws. Those cases are being transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Rangers handed out 52 warnings for equipment violations such as broken windshields and missing lights, with multiple violations on some vehicles. They sent 41 vehicles to a more thorough search station at the checkpoint. Those cases required more investigation because rangers found “probable cause” findings such as an equipment violation or an open container of alcohol.
Officials issued two open container violations, a driver’s license violation and a violation for a motorist traveling without insurance.
Park officials report that last year Yellowstone rangers investigated more than 522 vehicle accidents, two of which resulted in fatalities. Rangers made more than 65 arrests for driving under the influence and filed 193 criminal cases for possession or sale of illegal drugs."Ask not what your country can do for you --ask what you can do for your country" John F.
