McCain is unclear on immigration-Ruben Navarrette Jr.

    McCain is unclear on immigration

Presidential candidates who seem to change positions as they change audiences should avoid accusing others of flip-flopping. It makes them look silly.

That's the lesson for John McCain, who has criticized Barack Obama for reversing his views on campaign finance and easing off his keep-up-with-

Hillary-Clinton opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement. Obama also flip-flopped on building hundreds of miles of fencing on the U.S.-Mexico border; the Illinois Democrat voted for the fence before he was against it.

Actually, McCain is very clear on "immigration" -- he still fervently believes in mass amnesty for tens of millions of illegal aliens. He just wants political cover to claim that the border is secured before he moves quickly onto amnesty.

With McCain and Obama talking about amnesty how many more illegals are pouring into the United States? Not just from Mexico but every place on earth. How many come into port and forget to get back on ship? Is anyone notified when they leave people behind?

Is amnesty for everyone here or just from Mexico? They are the only ones whose demand their rights. Maybe all other nationalities should protest. That way we are not just picking on one group of people.

So Obama is wrong. This isn't a flip-flop. McCain is basically in the same place he was a year ago.
Yep, McCain definitely hasn't flip-flopped on his desires for comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty)! I wish it was so, but unfortunately it's not.

And we can't let McCain improperly frame the debate & spout that Americans just want the border secured first. Actually, we want the borders secured period and NO amnesty.
