LAKE PLACID - A 21-year-old Lake Placid man has been charged with attempted felony murder and armed robbery in connection with Saturday's stabbing of a man and robbery of a female.

Juan Rodriguez (also known as Juan Rodrigues), of 18 Siesta Lane, Lake Placid, was booked Sunday into the Highlands County Jail.

Rodriguez is charged with robbing Elena Consepcion-Delaluz at knifepoint and stabbing her husband, Catalino Diaz Gonzalez, multiple times, which led to serious injuries.

According to a sheriff's office report, Rodriguez entered the Lupita Grocery Store, 269 Highlands Blvd., Lake Placid, Saturday evening, where Consepcion-Delaluz works and threatened to kill her.

As Consepcion-Delaluz walked home from work, Rodriguez grabbed her cell phone from her hand and tried to take her purse while attempting to pull her into a dark bushy area, the report states.

At the time, Rodriguez was holding a knife to Conspecion-Delaluz's throat.

She escaped and returned to the Lupita Grocery Store, according to the report. A co-worker drove her home.

Later, Rodriguez was found yelling outside the couple's home.

When the husband stepped out to see, Rodriguez stabbed him with a knife multiple times, inflicting severe wounds, the report states.

Consepcion-Delaluz tried to protect her husband by hitting Rodriguez with a metal pipe.

Gonzalez was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Rodriguez was arrested by deputies on Sunday as he attempted to flee his home at 18 Siesta Lane, Venus.

He is being held in the Highlands County Jail with bond set at $200,000 but cannot be bonded out due to an immigration hold order, according to the Highlands County Jail.
