Domestic assault takes a twist

A woman who was assaulted in her 717 Olive St. home Monday afternoon is in good condition, but the circumstances involving her assault have changed.

Victor Gomez-Puac, 29, was arrested at 503 Francis St. on a second-degree assault. A warrant was obtained and Gomez-Puac is in the Jasper County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

Julio Lopez-Morales, 25, Carthage, was initially arrested on information the Carthage Police Department had at the time.

"As we investigated further, we released him without charge," said Detective Sgt. Randee Kaiser.

The CPD also learned as the investigation developed that the victim was not trying to break up a fight between two men but was being assaulted by Gomez-Puac. The two individuals did fight after Gomez-Puac walked into the home where the woman and Lopez-Morales were.

The CPD doesn't believe the victim and Gomez-Puac were legally married but they were acquaintances for six years.

"Initially, we thought Victor was at the house, but he came to the house and assaulted her," Kaiser said. "It was a lot of information we received early and that made the case confusing. But as the case developed yesterday, we were able to sort it out."

The investigation also determined another fact - Gomez-Puac is an illegal immigrant. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement is holding him on a detainer.

Carthage....no surprise...they deserve what they get in Carthage...because the have turned a blind eye to the illegals...the illegals live in a place called lovingly by the folks there as Little Mexico... where chickens run in the yards and pigs hang in the trees of the yard...several families to one family houses... and the best part the have given them a free soccor feild but they will not pay for porta potties so they releive themselves...on the baseball feild...this is all done for cheap labor for the polutry plant that runs the town...I met a retired plant manager that said just a few years back the plant hired all Americans but not anymore...he said it was just management that is American and all the workers are Mexicans...and it is going to get much worse...
