Illegal alien shuts down traffic near Charlotte for 12 hours
Accident Snags Traffic Twelve Hours Later

Motorists traveling on I-77 in Iredell County late Tuesday night experienced a major delay.
More than twelve hours after the accident happened, workers with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) were evaluating the integrity of a bridge damaged during a crash.
The highway patrol said a man ran swerved into a lane causing a concrete truck to flip onto its side. The concrete truck ran into two concrete supports underneath a bridge spanning the interstate.
According to the highway patrol, the bridge will be closed for an estimated five weeks to allow the DOT to make necessary repairs.
Traffic in both the north and southbound lanes of the interstate were reduced to one lane for several hours Tuesday night to allow workers to remove the concrete truck and repair damaged guardrail.
The highway patrol said Jeronimo Lopez was driving a Honda and swerved in front of the concrete truck. Lopez was treated at the scene.
Michael Brown of Conover was driving the concrete truck. He suffered serious injuries and was flown to Carolinas Medical Center.
The Highway Patrol cited Lopez with careless and reckless driving, and for not having a driver's license. He was taken to the Iredell County Jail and is being held under an $8,000 bond.
The trooper investigating the crash said Lopez is in the country illegally.

Truck hits overpass, closing it
Mixer hits support after car swerves in front; trucker hospitalized

Morning commuters on Interstate 77 were snarled in traffic for hours Tuesday after a concrete mixing truck struck part of an overpass in the median just south of Exit 33, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
The damage will keep the Langtree Road overpass at the future Exit 32 closed until the N.C. Department of Transportation can assess its condition.
The wreck occurred about 7:15 a.m. when a driver without a license swerved in front of the mixer, causing its driver to lose control, said Trooper Marty Liles. Jeronimo Lopez, 25, of Charlotte was driving his 1987 Honda northbound in the left lane before cutting off the mixer in the right lane, Liles said.
The mixer's driver, Michael Eugene Brown Jr., 28, of Conover, was forced to hit the Honda, which overturned several times on the shoulder, Liles said.
Brown careened back across traffic and struck one of the supports holding up the Langtree Road overpass, moving it a "pretty good distance," Liles said.
Lopez suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital, Liles said.
Brown was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. His condition was not available early Tuesday evening.
Lopez was charged with careless and reckless driving and driving without a license, Liles said. He is being held in the Iredell County jail on an $8,000 bond, he said.
Lopez doesn't have an N.C. criminal record.
Liles said Lopez lacked identification but told him he was from El Salvador and working in the U.S. to send money home to his sick son.
The wreck closed both lanes northbound and one lane southbound for an hour. But traffic still didn't get back to normal until about 10:30 a.m., Liles said.
Commuter Jacquelynn Smith said her usual 10-to-15-minute commute between Exit 28 in Cornelius and Exit 30 in Davidson took about an hour.
"I sat on the ramp to the interstate with my car turned off," she said in an e-mail.
Langtree Road residents who live west of I-77 will continue to feel the effects of the wreck for several days while the overpass is closed. Department of Transportation officials couldn't assess the situation fully Tuesday because crews weren't moving the mixer from the scene until 7 p.m. after rush hour.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
