A citizen of Mexico, last residing in Stamford, was sentenced Monday to three months in prison for illegally re-entering the U.S. after being deported.

Carlos Alberto Garcia, also known as "Carlos Camacho," 37, pleaded guilty to the Dec. 23, 2009 offense.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in March 1990, Garcia was admitted to the United States on a B2 Tourist Visa. On October 12, 2006, Garcia was arrested in Stamford for second degree sexual assault and related charges.

He was subsequently placed into immigration removal proceedings for failing to leave the U.S. upon the expiration of his B2 Visa and, on November 30, 2007, he was deported to Mexico.

On March 5, 2009, Garcia, having illegally reentered the U.S., was arrested by the Westport Police for operating a vehicle without a license. Following this arrest, Garcia's 2006 sexual assault charges were reinstated.

Garcia, who has been detained in state or federal custody since his March 2009 arrest, will be deported to Mexico following service of his federal prison term.
