Edwards pulls out of presidential race

    Roxanne Escobales and agencies
    Wednesday January 30, 2008

    Guardian Unlimited

Senator John Edwards is to drop out of the race to become the Democratic party's presidential candidate after consistently trailing in third place.
In the latest primary, held in Florida yesterday, Edwards gained only 14% of the vote, with Hillary Clinton polling 50% and Barack Obama on 33%. A reported 1.5m voters turned out to vote.

Edwards' exit is not surprising, given that he lost the primary in South Carolina, next to his home state of North Carolina. His decision to pull out comes just days before so-called Super Tuesday when more than 20 states will be voting.

Senators Clinton and Obama will now be keen to win an endorsement from Edwards.

    More details soon

The one who also needs to drop out is Mike Huckabee.

As much as I'd like to see him drop out, that would only strengthen McCain at this point in time. Right now, McCain is sharing RINO votes with Rudy and Huckster. If Rudy and Huckster drop out right now, Super Tuesday will be a slam dunk for McCain.

You are right about that. I heard in the news this morning that Rudy was quitting the race too and that he'll endorse John McCain. I haven't seen any articles about it yet.

Good. I'm sure he will pick up a quick, class action lawsuit in no time to help him get back on his feet.
