Emanuel Urges Trump To Continue Key Obama Immigration Policy

CHICAGO (CBS) — In a private meeting in New York, Mayor Rahm Emanuel delivered a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him to continue a federal program that allows some undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation.
The letter, signed by Emanuel and 16 other big city mayors, asked the Trump administration to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) system enacted by President Barack Obama, until Congress passes a comprehensive plan to overhaul the immigration system. The federal program allows immigrants brought to the country illegally as children to avoid deportation and get work permits.
“Nearly 742,000 undocumented youth have participated in DACA since it began in 2012. With work authorization and without the fear of deportation, these young people have been able to participate in and contribute to our cities, our country and our economy. These youth have deep economic and social ties to our nation. Many of them have been educated in American schools and employed by American business owners. They paid fees, submitted fingerprints and underwent background checks,” the letter said.

In his letter, Emanuel said DACA is good for the national economy and national security, since the vast majority of those in the program are employed at American businesses, and many of them have started their own businesses, while others are serving in the military as translators and medical personnel.
“Ensuring DREAMers can continue to live and work in their communities without fear of deportation is the foundation of sound, responsible immigration policy. Ending DACA would disrupt the lives of close to one million young people, and it would disrupt the sectors of the American economy, as well as our national security and public safety, to which they contribute,” the letter said.
Emanuel also spoke to Trump on the phone three weeks ago to discuss the White House transition. Earlier this week, the mayor confirmed Trump called him after winning the race for president, because of Emanuel’s experience as a top adviser to two presidents.
“The president-elect is aware, obviously, I’ve worked for two presidents in different positions – a senior adviser for President Clinton, chief of staff for President Obama – and I’ve worked on their transitions. I think you also know that we talked about a host of things, a host of issues,” Emanuel said.

This is all about future Democrat voters and global, open borders planning. They cry for illegal aliens and ignore the best interests of the nation and its citizens.
Funny how American children can leave the nation, be educated somewhere else, live somewhere else and yet these DACA individuals must remain, taking jobs and places in higher education. Many have family in other countries and they carry foreign flags.
Republicans like Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham and others will echo the Chicago Mayor and sanctuary city Mayors. The citizens have really been ill served by so many.Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

He should put his thoughts and energy to correcting the daily murders in Chicago.
What kind of mayor allows that to continue w/o taking the necessary actions to stop it? Illegals are another countries citizens - get them outta here!

Ending DACA and deporting them would be an enormous BURDEN off the backs of US taxpayers. Get them out of our communities.
Their "temporary" status is over. Go take what you learned and apply it in your country.

I have no problem with it. Trump's going to end the crime and inner cities problems in Chicago and many other major cities across America, so Emanuel was set-up to show the foolish traitor he is. He has a rare meeting with the next President of the United States and all he was interested in were illegal aliens and money to house them, nothing for black Americans in Chicago, nothing for white Americans trying to live in Chicago. That was well worth the time Trump spent with this Mayor.

I didn't figure you would have a problem with it. I'm used to you defending every move Trump makes. News flash, Trump is just a man, not a God, and he puts his paints on just like every other man. Being human makes him fallible. Seeking transition advice from the likes of Emanuel is as inexcusable as seeking advice from Obama on cabinet picks.
My vote for Trump didn't mean I would blindly cheer his every move. I've never issued a 'blank check' in my life and don't intend on starting now. When I see Trump doing something I perceive as wrong, I'm going to call him on it. MW, I really don't care. You were not a Trump Supporter. You were a Trump Voter. That's your issue, not mine. If you want to spend the next 4 years trying to tear down our President because his every move doesn't please you, that is your right under the First Amendment, just don't expect all of US to be impressed by it. That doesn't work in football, it doesn't work in business, it doesn't work in the military, and it sure as hell doesn't work in American Politics.

I'm not seeking your approval, nor do I care what does or doesn't impress you. We can't all be cheerleaders 100% of the time. There are times when people have to stand up and call someone to the carpet when they feel bad decisions are being made. What kind of country would we have if we gave ever politician a free pass on their every decision?
