Minutemen Commemorate 2 Years Patrolling Border

Minutemen Commemorate 2 Years Patrolling Border
    March 27th, 2007 @ 3:10pm by Bob McClay/KTAR

The Minutemen are heading back to the border. They are planning an operation to commemorate two years of patrolling.
They'll be in several areas the entire month of April.

"All across the southern border and in Washington State, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire," said Chris Simcox, leader of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

Simcox said their efforts have been successful.

"Border patrol has apprehended 13,631 with our assistance since April of 2004," Simcox said. "We've conducted 286 life saving rescues, and we've given hundreds of gallons of water to people and provided medical assistance."

Simcox said that securing the border is the first step toward comprehensive immigration reform.

"Our search and rescue teams will be out working as they have been," Simcox said. "We trained about 25 new volunteers in our elite search and rescue teams this weekend. Our effort is always to provide humanitarian aid, water and to help save lives."
