MANASSAS, Va. -- Leaders in Prince William County said they hope a new proposal will help them better combat illegal immigration.

Under the proposed program, five law enforcement agencies in the county would join forces to get federal training in deportation procedures.

Officers at the jail, the Sheriff's Office and police departments in Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park would use the same guidelines.

Prince William leaders have come under fire recently for a proposal to crack down on illegal immigrants by denying them county services. Last week, immigrants held a boycott of businesses they say are not immigrant friendly.

Republican leaders in Virginia House of Delegates have proposed that all city and county jails check the immigration status of inmates housed there.
