Sheriff Paul Babeu has recently been called an “anti-immigration activist” by online site Media Matters for America, but is unthreatened by the comments, stating they couldn’t be further from the truth.
Chris DeRose, leader of the Sheriff’s exploratory committee, spoke with Today Publication’s about the situation.
“The Sheriff’s opposition to illegal immigration is well documented,” said DeRose, “Paul is strongly in support of legal immigration, and an advocate for enforcing the rule of law.”
Sheriff Babeu addressed the issue in his own words on his website SheriffPaul.com. There he states that calling out representatives when it comes to the reality of the current state of the boarder and securing does not make him anti-immigration.
“The oath that he’s taken as a Sheriff and as a law enforcement officer, and a member of armed services, is always to uphold the laws, and that means all the laws,” added DeRose.
Media Matters is an online center that tracks conservative media, funded in part by George Soros. It is the Sheriff’s multiple appearances on Fox News that has sparked the responses.
“They said Fox News was biased towards Paul, they called him America’s Sheriff of the year,” said DeRose, “Well, he is America’s Sheriff of the year, but Fox news didn’t give him that title. Three thousand plus colleagues in the national sheriff’s association did.”
DeRose feels that these statements reveal that the Sheriff is a threat to many officials.
“Paul is obviously a threat to the people in Washington D.C. who favor the status quo,” continued DeRose, “who favor doing nothing, not just about immigration but also about our budget, about our deficit, about our massive unemployment.”
Though DeRose believes this is the first major statement against the Sheriff’s congressional committee, he is aware it may not be the last.
Media Matters also posted on their site that Sheriff Babeu loves Fox News, which DeRose admits is true.
“Well yeah he loves Fox news,” said DeRose, “If it weren’t for Fox news, I don’t think anybody would have ever reported the Fast and Furious tragedies.”
The reporting brought to light over 2,000 guns believed to have been transferred to criminals, and linked to over 200 crime scenes in Mexico, as well as the death of a border patrol agent, according to DeRose.
The Sheriff’s committee has been extremely successful since its start, raising over $127,000 in two weeks. They believe it could be an Arizona record for an open seat.
‘Things have been going incredibly well,” added DeRose, “The Sheriff’s really been touched by the outpouring of support in favor of his candidacy, and the generosity of his supporters. “

There's a new Sheriff in town, and the Left is shaking in its boots! He is a very good speaker, and You Tube has many videos on him. The Left is going to try to crucify him. I don't think that threat will leave him shaking in his boots! He's serious about his views on illegal immigration.
