MCALLEN - Two men are now facing federal drug charges after ICE agents recovered more than two-and-a half tons of marijuana from a McAllen home.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents seized more than 225 bundles from a house at 401 W. Daffodil in McAllen.

Juan Manuel Saldana-Tovar and Osvaldo Alanis-Perez told McAllen police they were using the home to store and package the drugs. McAllen police teamed up with the feds.

Court documents say the men would use foot powder and coffee grounds to mask the scent of the drug. They would then wrap the bundles in additional cellophane.

Authorities said Saldana-Tovar admitted he would transport the drugs to the home. Alaniz-Perez said he would help wrap and guard the bundles.

The duo was in court Wednesday for their initial appearance. They'll be back for a bond hearing Tuesday.
