HENDERSONVILLE – Sheriff Rick Davis can’t forget a shooting two years ago in which a man killed his estranged wife and injured their child.

Six years before the fatal shooting, the suspect, Joel Zelaya Rivera, was charged with assaulting a family member in Texas, Davis said. Two years after that, Rivera, who was in the country illegally, was charged with assaulting a female in Henderson County.

A program now in place in Henderson County might have prevented the murder.

“Had 287(g) been in place either in Texas or here on the first arrest, I feel very confident that homicide would not have occurred,â€

Jerry Tudela, who lives in Asheville and works with a Hispanic ministry in Hickory, said such programs aren’t good for the community, partly because of the toll on families of those arrested.
Mr Tuleda, any lawbreaker in the US who pays the price for his or her lawbreaking is also seperated from his or her family. Stop your obfuscation and non sense. We are tired of this. Enough is enough!

Neither is prison for murderers, rapists, fraud, ID theft. OH the tragedy of separating those families when a family member has committed a crime. We should let Peterson out of prison, it would make his mother so much happier. It doesn't matter that he killed Lacey. NAW it just matters what it does to his family.
