Obama marginalizes his own citizens

A Republican congressman who opposes illegal immigration says he disagrees with a recent comment by President Barack Obama that referred to those who oppose amnesty for illegal aliens as "demagogues."

When President Obama was asked last week about passing an amnesty bill, he told reporters: "Am I going to be able to snap my fingers and get this done? No...There are going to be demagogues out there who try to suggest that any form of pathway for legalization for those who are already in the United States is unacceptable."

Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa), the ranking member on the House Immigration Subcommittee, takes issue with the president's comment.

"The president said that anybody who apparently stands up for the Rule of Law and defending current law and arguing that we should defend our sovereignty and that we should punish people who sneak into the United States illegally to be demagogues. And he's also used the term 'un-American' for the people who are opposed to the National Health Care Act," he notes.

"So when you see those words thrown around by the president, the speaker of the House, and other leaders in this country, I think that tells you that there's a strong effort to marginalize people rather than to reach out."

According to King, President Obama is determined to ram a comprehensive amnesty bill through Congress against the wishes of the majority of the American people.
