Immigration Groups Try To Prevent Waukegan From Giving Police Power To Enforce Immigration Law

    Katie McCall
    Reporting

(CBS) WAUKEGAN, Ill. Thousands of people are expected to converge on the Waukegan City Council Monday. They’re fighting efforts to give police more control over immigration law enforcement. CBS 2’s North Suburban Bureau Chief Katie McCall reports on activists actions on Sunday.

Volunteers with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) spent the day going door to door in Waukegan collecting signatures. The organization reports 2,500 people signed a petition to try to prevent the city from applying for a federal program that would give police the power to enforce immigration law.

I just hope they don't allow the illegals to pack the meeting hall like they did the last time.

This is what I'm wondering.......how are they going to prevent rightful citizens from being locked out of this meeting? You just know that the activists already have some plan in place to snap up all the tickets.

So true, azwreath. This is why WE need to be out there early and in force. I sure hope we can do it. I know I'm bringing my daughter with me to get a ticket, will drop her off back home, and give that ticktet to 'one of us'.

Wish us luck tomorrow...this will make or break us...
Bless my friends and family, and God Bless America!

    Good plan!!!

And you bet I'm wishing all of you nothing but the best tomorrow! I'd have liked to be there in person but that's impossible so I've lent what support I could, emailing the Mayor and Council. And they will find emails from me waiting for them tomorrow as well.

Don't worry....many of us will be right there behind you all in spirit!!!
