Prime Minister Bruce Golding has disclosed that illegal immigrants from Haiti have established communities in some areas of Jamaica.

"There is a growing Haitian population in Jamaica and Northwest St. Catherine is one of the areas being occupied by the illegal immigrants," said the Prime Minister.

He also also said that he has received information that many of these Haitians are linked to gangs in the southern section of Haiti.

These Haitians, some of whom have started families here, are a threat to the country’s national security, he added.

The Prime Minister also said the government is preparing a number of initiatives to deal with the illegal immigration of Haitians and the illicit guns for drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti.
