Sheriff: Dispute over tires leads to murder near Weslaco

NEAR WESLACO — A dispute over four stolen wheels and tires left an illegal immgirant dead early Sunday morning, deputies said.

A homeowner who said he heard at least four gunshots found 29-year-old Christian Gerardo Landa dead in the street about 5:30 a.m. Sunday on the 2300 block of Kerp Street, sheriff's investigators said in a news release.

Investigators said Landa, an illegal immigrant, had been shot at least three times in the torso. Investigators recovered bullet casings from an AK-47 assault rifle at the scene of the murder.

The fatal shooting is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute between relatives over the theft of four wheels and tires, investigators said. Landa is belived to have been the man who stole the wheels and tires.

Deputies continues to search for Ociel Castaneda, 21, an illegal immigrant and Landa's brother-in-law, who owned the purportedly stolen property. Deputies searched for Landa on Sunday, but were unable to find him.

A photo of the victim and Castaneda, identified as a person of interest in the case, are expected to be disclosed on Monday.

Landa's death marks the 15th murder investigation conducted by Hidalgo County sheriff's investigators this year.

Sounds like an illegal that is armed to the teeth and the right age for Obama's amnesty.
