Six suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody in Ohio County early Wednesday.

Deputies said the six men were stopped in a van with its hazard lights on near the Dallas Pike exit of Interstate 70 eastbound.

The men told deputies they were working for a Maryland company and were on the way back from a job in Cincinnati.

Deputies said one suspect could speak some English. The men told a Spanish-speaking deputy they were in the country illegally, and police said just one suspect had any kind of documentation.

The men remained in police custody in Ohio County on Wednesday awaiting transport from immigration officials.

Sgt. Nelson Croft said I-70 has become a common spot to find suspected illegal immigrants because it is a major east-west connector.
