17-Year-Old Abducted, Police Search for Persons Responsible

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) – Missing teenager William Alexander Benitez has been found in south Texas, according to Rockingham County Sheriff's investigators.

Benitez was found Thursday when Texas authorities reportedly stopped a car in Galveston in which Benitez was riding. The person believed to have kidnapped the teenager got away.

Texas investigators said it took them several days to figure out Benitez's identity because of his immigration status.

Rockingham County investigators believe robbery may have been the motive for the kidnapping.

MADISON N.C. (WGHP) – Police are searching for 17-year-old boy that was abducted early Wednesday morning.

Around 1:09 a.m., deputies responded to 151 Stephanie Lane in Madison. Jose Benitez Rivera claimed money had been stolen from his home and someone had kidnapped his nephew.

Police say three men and a woman forced their way into the home through a rear door. Once inside the home, an unidentified person took a knife from the kitchen and threatened William Benitez.

After taking some personal items from the home, the suspects forced the 17-year-old to leave with them in a black 1993 Honda Civic.

"There was also a red vehicle, unknown make and model was seen at the scene," said Rockingham County Sheriff's Captain Perry Brookshire.

The black Honda was later involved in an accident near Stokesdale where witnesses said everyone inside the car took off on foot.

An Amber Alert was issued this afternoon. In the alert, one of the suspects was identified as Antonio Granada, 18. Sheriff's spokesman Dean Venable said there are two carloads of others also involved.

"We do know that they have ties to Greensboro and Kernersville," said Brookshire, who added the suspects also have connections to the Houston, Texas area and may be headed there. Investigators have not mentioned a possible motive for the abduction.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rockingham County CrimeStoppers at 336-349-9683.

Somebody explain to me what 18 year old guy "kidnaps" a 17 year old guy? It's a shame our Rockingham county law enforcement is so PC these days.

I'm thinking either gang involvement or not enough coyote payoff. Of course there are other possibilities, too.

Wonder if they will give the "victim" and his parents/siblings/extended family a "path to citizenship" for their troubles or possibly just continue to look the other way ( which is the norm here) when it comes to immigration status?
