Oklahoma's attorney general and lawmakers from the House and Senate will meet during the upcoming session to develop proposals specifically targeting illegal immigration.

House Speaker Kris Steele and Senate Pro Tem Brian Bingman announced the formation of the panel on Thursday.

The group will include four to six lawmakers each from the House and Senate, along with the new Republican Attorney General, Scott Pruitt. Republican Rep. George Faught of Muskogee and Sen. Ron Justice of Chickasha will serve as co-chairs of the committee.

In a joint press release, Steele, Bingman and others say the committee will focus on legal reforms that target public safety and crimes associated with illegal immigrants, as well as ways to protect and in effect stop any state taxpayer money from "subsidizing illegal immigration or its supporting organizations."
